Welcome to the vaguely hot-spot that I have found it someone else's kitchen. I doubt it's going to last, so I'm writing this quickly.
Busy, busy week. I've been teaching FRENCH for the last three days.
mcee, that is your cue to start crying.
Thursday, we had an open house for all of this year's Year 6s who are hoping to be next year's Year 7 cohort starting at the school. I was at the school from 7:30am, taught all day, ran around helping get the displays and everything up, then stood around and talked to prospective parents from 6:00 to 9:00pm while looking sleek and responsible and professional in my new suit. Loooooooong day.
This weekend was the school's annual retreat weekend for new teachers. All the new hires, the administrative staff, and a chunk of experienced teachers loaded up in cars and left directly from the school Friday. We drove about 40 minutes out of town to the Theobalds Conference Centre, where we each got our own room (complete with high speed access, if I'd had the sense to pack my computer) and tons of fantastic food. The room and the food was free, drinks were on us, and it was just absolutely fantastic to get to unwind and hang out with some of the people I've been getting friendly with at work. For once we got to talk without three million children crowding around us, Miss-Miss-Miss-he-punched-me-No-I-didn't-Yes-he-diding.
Also, seriously. Seriously! Look at those grounds! Saturday, after getting to bed at 2am the night before (and I left most of the group still going strong in the bar), I woke up at 6:15 and couldn't go back to sleep. Instead, I showered, packed up, then went out for a walk to kill time until breakfast. I hadn't realised how much constantly being in the city was beginning to creep up on me -- actually getting to go out by myself and walk around the grounds, which were absolutely gorgeous, just felt so fantastic.
Then there were sessions and things all day before we loaded back up and came back to London yesterday evening.
Other great news as follows:
My father is coming out to visit me! He arrives on the 11th of October. I'm really excited, as I've been starting to get a little homesick.
My mother was offered a fantastic job that she didn't think she had a chance at. She applied more for the experience of applying than for anything else. She knew some of the other people applying and figured there was absolutely no competition -- the committee would go one of the others. Instead, she was their first choice and they are pursuing her vigerously. It's a major promotion from her current position and the fantastic opportunity. It is also five hours FURTHER AWAY FROM ME by plane, but I don't even mind that so much, it's such a great opportunity. She's talking it over with my father and going to decide by tonight.
I got paid yesterday. Jobs are awesome!
That is all. I am now heading out for my traditional weekend activity of wandering around various parts of London, nipping in to museums and shops at whim, and buying coffee at every Starbucks, Cafe Nero, and Costa shop that I pass.
