Because I always, always do what
mcee tells me to:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out to Get Us - Sufjan Stevens
I have absolutely no idea where this song came from -- it came up one day when I hit random shuffle on my mp3 player, but I don't ever remember downloading it. Nevertheless, I am currently very infatuated with it. It is sweet and meandering and hallucinogenic and gay.
The Marching Bands of Manhattan - Death Cab for Cutie
This is my Death Cab song of the month. April was "I Will Follow You Into the Dark," May was "The Sound of Settling," and now this. I'm hung up on the imagery in the lyrics and the mellow, slightly repetitive cycle of the melody.
Blankest Year - Nada Surf
My teaching partner from Kenya made me a mix CD the other week. She and I have very different taste in music, but I ended up really liking this song. It's very careless and upbeat -- a good song for the beginning of summer.
Living Room - Tegan and Sara
I like songs that have a bit of a story to them, especially when it's a bit of a stalker-crush story. Not to mention the fact that Tegan and Sara have fantastic voices and I love acoustic guitars. The banjo doesn't hurt, either.
Let's Talk About Spaceships - Say Hi to Your Mom
I don't know what it is about this song that I like so much, but it's been in my steady rotation for the past month. It's low-key and repetitive, but in a way that really appeals to me.
Put Me in the Car - Ryan Gosling
A constant favourite -- I never hit skip on the mp3 player when this one comes up. Ryan Gosling's voice and my previously mentioned weakness for acoustic guitar has had this in my constant rotation for over a year.
Emperor Penguin - Tragically Hip
I've been on a huge Tragically Hip kick of late -- something about knowing for sure that I'm moving to England next year has made me feel very patriotic. And, really, what's more Canadian than the Tragically Hip? This has been one of my favourite Hip songs since high school and it's making me just a bit nostalgic to listen to it.
And as for tagging people, I'm going to throw it open to anyone who wants to do it, in no small part because the medication just kicked in and my typing is getting sloppy. If you do take it on, please leave a comment -- I want to know what you all are listening to these days!
I am going to tag
lazlet in particular, though, because I've seen and drooled over and lusted after her CD collection and I love her music recs.
