So, back when I was sitting in my own classes all day, dreaming up things to teach when I got out to do my practice teaching, I had what I thought was the best idea ever for a poetry activity for my grade seven class.
I know, I thought to myself. I'll take a classic poem and cut it up and put it into a paperbag for each student. Then they can assemble the lines themselves however they think sounds best! This will make poetry seem more accessable to them and give them something to play with. It will also allow some of my kids with learning difficulties the opportunity to play with language without the stress of having to come up with the vocabulary themselves! Best. Idea. Ever!
Worst. Idea. Ever.
*flexes aching fingers and contemplates huge pile of paper bags balefully*
Thank heavens for
mcee's willingness to be sucked into my teacher prep work. She cut up tons of "Dolce Et Decorum Est" for me while I worked on "The Stolen Child."
