Oi good christ morning where's the coffee.

Back in Ottawa. Family weekend was very good.

My mother is leaving on Wednesday to spend a month in England. She's taking twenty student teachers over to do their practice teaching in London and in a small town just outside of London (the name of which I'm completely blanking on just now). She was saying to me that some of the more experienced travellers in the group have been busily making plans to hop a cheap flight over to the continent or the like on the weekends, and that some of the other, less experienced members of the group were starting to feel bad about the fact that they'd just planned to stay in London. Many of this latter group have never before been off the North American continent -- at least three of them had to apply for their first passport in order to come on the trip -- and they didn't really feel comfortable planning to jet off all over the place.

So, then, I started feeling bad about these poor people feeling bad, and on Saturday night I sat down and made a huge list of things to see and do in London.

I really only meant to make a very small list, mention the Tates and the British Museum and the like. But.

Um.

It exploded.

I ended up listing every art gallery and museum in London that I've ever been to, plus a good few that I haven't. Then I added a section of non-art gallery or museum things to do and see in London -- things like the London Walks or taking a boat up the Thames to Greenwich or going to Westminster and St. Paul's. Then I found internet links for almost every thing I listed, plus links to websites with pictures of the places that didn't have websites (like Trafalgar Square or Covent Garden).

Then I went through and put little stars next to everything that was free of charge, because these people are students, and that's the kind of information students want to have.

Then for the things that weren't free, I found out how much admission was and whether there was a student discount, and I noted that on my list, too.

Then I added a couple of editorial comments, like mentioning the kind of things that are on display at the British Library's permanent exhibit or that while the Tower of London is rather more expensive than the places that have free admission, it really is worth the cost.

Then I decided that I really missed England, but what I needed to do was put the list down and back away omg.

So. That's what I did.

Oh my god, a student just emailed to make an appointment to discuss her upcoming essay. She's having a little difficulty with her topic and wants to talk it over with me.

Is this it? Is this the moment I've been dreading for a year and a half? Is this when they find out I don't know what I'm talking about?

*runs to bookshelf and begins pulling every remotely related book down*

I can't seem to stay awake today. I sat down for a second just to look up something in The Life of W.T. Stead, v. 1 and fell asleep with my face in the book.

Mm, old paper smell, but utterly beside the point.

Which is, hours after getting up and a full pot of coffee later, I'm still not awake.
