7 August 2004 01:22 pmI took the dog for a walk before lunch. Well, okay, we left at 12:00, which may be interpreted more like "took the dog for a walk at lunch," but as I have yet to actually eat, it counts. But that is an aside. The point is, I took the dog for a walk today and discovered an entire network of walking paths in the woods behind my house that I never even knew existed. They're utterly gorgeous paths -- wide and relatively clear of fallen trees and the like, but still rough enough to be interesting going. They go clear up to the top of the hill behind my house and who knows how far back into the woods. I walked for an hour along one of them and still felt like I had barely begun to see what was out there when I turned back.
My family has owned this house for about eleven years now. We moved here when I was in grade five and lived here for three years, then rented it out when we moved to Manitoba, then moved back into it when we came back to Ontario four years ago. So. Eleven years and I never knew these paths existed.
I am now tired and sweaty and refuse to even think about lunch until after I have a shower. I am proud to report, however, that I exhausted the dog. He has collapsed on his side on the landing and is actually audibly snoring.
